Build your base, get that tall pyramid

Friday! Alright!! Have you had a good week? Should I really say… did you make it a good week?

I said I would talk briefly about our Hypnobirthing course, so I will do that. Let me tell you it has been an absolute eye opener and in my opinion, they should be showing/teaching Hypnobirthing at schools instead of the frightening stuff they show us during sex ed.

Over time, there has been so much fear instilled with women when it comes to childbirth and I believe a lot of that is due to what we see on TV. With that fear, there is the association of pain. Now I am not going to profess as to how childbirth is, what it feels like during or even after the event. I will say though, we have witnessed some of the hypnobirthing videos of women going through their labour and we were just in awe. These women are having relatively stress free, almost relaxing births without the pressure of having to push like crazy and pain dealt with in a much more positive way. The women are encouraged to work with their contractions (referred to as surges as a way of using more positive terminology) relax and allow their uterus to do, what is was designed to do during birth.

There is a lot that goes into Hynobirthing (yes there is an element of SELF hypnosis), but let’s look at it this way… Sometimes... is there a better way of approaching different circumstances or situations in life? I hope we all say yes to that one. Hypnobirthing is about giving women the ability to have a positive birth experience and making informed decisions through education. A positive birthing experience being whatever the woman chooses at the time.

I wanted to share this because you just don’t hear about such courses or information unless you almost search hard for it yourself. So if you know someone who is thinking about having children or is pregnant, please recommend them to at least have a look at the Hypnobirthing Australia website. Also for you statistic lovers, here’s something else to look at http://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/8/2/e017333

NOW… to the base building. I have very big goals, (in my opinion anyhow 😊). With big goals there is generally a fair amount of work involved when it comes to achieving them. I’d really like to achieve a 1 arm chin up this year. My other fitness goal was to be able to achieve a well aligned and repeatable handstand. There is a tonne of work involved in achieving both goals, I have been definitely guilty of skipping a few things here and there, which has either slowed my progression or unfortunately bitten me on the behind with injury.

In my eyes, I like to build tall pyramids and I want to continue to building them, but I have to be willing enough to take a step back or to the side and get a stronger base. The same can be said with my business, also with my relationships and other areas of my life. If I want success now and for the long term, I need to cement, lock down and focus on my "base".

Let me use weight loss as an example. If weight loss is one of your tall pyramids, then what do you need to do build yourself a stronger base? One of my business mentors had asked me and other business owners in our course a really good question that I need to refer to more often. "What does your business need, that you don’t already have?" So if I don’t have enough clients, then how do I get more clients? If it is through marketing, what do I need to do with my marketing, what do I need to learn or study, what do I implement from there etc etc.

You want to lose weight, so what do you need that you don’t have? My biggest recommendation is working on mindset. Ouch! Who the hell wants to work on that? Truthfully I have and yes I need to keep working on it, because it’s a huge piece of my base and I believe the same for nearly every other single human being out there.

Do you need to learn to cook, so you can prepare more fresh meals or have meals frozen and ready to which you know are healthy enough for you to consume? Do you need to do follow a properly constructed nutrition plan, (I mean by a properly certified nutritionist)? Do you need to get more education on making better food choices?

Do you see my point? There are certain foundations, decisions or choices that we must set in stone so we can all have stronger bases to help us build the tall pyramids that we are striving for.

By the way, for my 1 arm chin up, part of my base building is working on a 2 minute passive hang, then working on the single arm hang with sets of alternating passive one arm hang
- 30/30,20/20,10/10 sec, without coming down X 2 sets, (information derived from Ido Portal’s one arm hanging blog).

Hey… that’s enough typing from me. I hope you haven’t had too many coffee’s reading this. Do me a favour, share if you liked it, send me a reply if you liked it, have a great weekend!

Have a great weekend everyone, and thanks again!
